Electrozinc plant of Russia’s UMMC to terminate operations
PYATIGORSK, Dec 14 (PRIME) -- Zinc and non-ferrous metals producer Electrozinc, part of Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC), plans to terminate its operations, a spokesperson for the plant told PRIME on Friday.
“We have decided to stop production fully, and equipment and the industrial site will undergo conservation procedures. We are to unload the remaining raw materials and unfinished products in the first quarter of 2019, after which we will start preparations for conservation. How much time it may take is difficult to say,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that the management is yet to discuss treatment of employees.
In October, a fire broke out at the plant on an area of 4,500 square meters, killing one fireman and injuring two. After the fire, several hundreds of residents of the republic of North Ossetia, supported by parliament, asked the regional authorities to suspend operations of the plant because of a negative impact that the plant has on ecology of the city of Vladikavkaz.
